saw an an upper with this added feature on it....someone wanna explain to me what it is and what is does?? searched the web and came up empty

Its a high end free float rail system for the ar-15.

and the pro's to the free floating rail system are??? easy addition of accessories??? easy breakdown?? theres a whole language in the AR world that may as well be sanskrit to me... tryin to figure it all out while i still can
